AUGUSTA — With a 3-0 sweep of Cony High School on the road Monday night, the Mount Desert Island High School varsity volleyball team completed their regular season schedule with a 13-1 record. They are now second seed in the league.
Set scores against Cony were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-20.
“We got solid help from the entire team,” Coach Corey Papadopoli said. “We’ve been working on getting the offense involved more effectively and did a good job of that today. We tried a few things out rotationally and everyone contributed to this win. We’re now looking forward to preparing for the playoffs.”
Sarah Phelps had 11 kills in the match. Elise Robertson contributed 6 kills and 5 aces. Riley Mooers had 15 assists.

The Lady Trojans hosted Calais Friday for their Senior Night contest and came away with a 3-0 win. Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, and 25-14.
“It was a great send off for our seniors in our final regular season home game,” Papadopoli said. “We got great performances out of all of them. We cruised past Calais on strong hitting and serving.”
Seniors Helena Munson, Sarah Phelps, Kayla Ray, Elise Robertson and Camilla Thomassen-Tai were honored in a ceremony before the game. Each had several aces, kills, blocks or digs in the match.
“These girls have given so much to this team on and off the court, and that made it a little bittersweet,” Papadopoli said. “We will miss them all. At least we secured a home playoff game so they get to play in Bernard Parady gym at least one more time. We’ll make the most of the time we have left with them.
“The whole team is playing really well right now and we just want to keep that going.”
The Trojans began their postseason Tuesday when they headed to Yarmouth for a scrimmage. They’re set to host a home playoff game Saturday against either Ellsworth or Kennebunk. Watch the high school’s athletics page for updates.
